Savannah Homegrown Collective Raises Money for Those In Need
Savannah, Georgiaโs live music scene is bustling. Pick any night of the week and one can easily find talented artists and musicians playing out on the town whether it be in small local restaurants and bars, classic ballroom style venues, or full blown concerts from legendary artists taking the stage at the Enmarket arena. But, there is something you may not know about the talents who call Savannah home, and that is that they have big hearts.
The Savannah Homegrown Collective is a group of local artists who are known for producing sell out concerts that celebrate talents from the area, and at the same time gives back to the community they love so much. The most recent concert titled โGeorgia On My Mindโ raised thousands of dollars for Emmaus House, which is an organization that helps those in need the the Savannah area. With the help, support, and host Victory North, which is one of the areas coolest concert venues, not only did this highly attended show raise money for this local charity organization, but it also celebrated the rich music history of the Georgia music scene with musicians performing songs from the likes of Otis Redding, Johnny Mercer, REM, Ray Charles, Widespread Panic, and so many more.
The concert featured a Homegrown Collective backing band featuring Andrew Sovine, owner of Back Room Record Studios and the main organizer of the event who played guitar and drums as a multi-instrumentalist, as well as Stan Ray backup vocals / drums, Ben Kaiser on guitar, Jared Hall on keys, Ryan Kelly on bass, and the talented Patrick Ellington jumping in on some songs on guitar as well.
Performers that evening included many of Savannahโs finestโฆ Eric Britt alongside his daughter Gracynn Britt, Steven Baumgardner, Trae Gurley, Susanna Kennedy, Anders Thomsen, Savannah Properโs own Charles Maring, Ray Lundy, Dolette McDonald, Aaron Zimmer, Josh Johansson, and Laiken Williams all took the stage giving memorable performances.
Homegrown Collective began 10+ years ago, and put on concerts for nine years up until 2020. Once the world began to open up to live events again they hosted โA Dreamer in Picturesโ, a tribute to Neil Young which was a huge success. 2023 they definitely pulled it off again with Georgia on my Mind. Their commitment to the Savannah music scene and community at large canโt be overlooked. We look forward to shining a spotlight on their next event as itโs sure to be a memorable experience.
